Governors

All schools in England have a Governing Body which is responsible for overseeing many of the strategic decisions of the school. A key role is to act as a ‘critical friend’: to support, to challenge, to ask questions, ultimately to represent the school community.

The Governing Body works in close partnership with the headteacher, staff and the local authority. Whilst the headteacher is, of course, responsible for the day to day running of the school, the governors are involved with staffing, curriculum, school buildings and finance. It ensures the school functions well and maintains a range of academic and social objectives.

More about us

Chris Clarke

I am Learning Mentor at our school, where I am lucky enough to have a wide and varied job description which is never the same two days running.  I decided to apply to be a Governor a number of years ago, when I wanted to add something to school life and the local community.  I started out as a Parent Governor, and lately have represented the support staff at school.  It is very satisfying to work for the good of our school, to be able to submit ideas, and to know that we all help to make Kippax North the special place that it is.

Janet Montgomerie

I have been a Governor at Kippax North for about 15 years, originally as a parent governor when my 2 daughters were pupils there, now as a co-opted governor.  I have always enjoyed the opportunity to be involved in and contribute to the life of such a good school, where all children are valued, and look forward to being even more involved when my grandson starts there in three or four years time.

I have lived in Kippax for 25 years and work as a social worker with older people and social work tutor in Leeds and Bradford.

Minos Perdios

My name is Minos Perdios and I am a parent governor at the school. I have two boys at the school, Harry and Theo. I am a qualified teacher and was Head of Maths at a secondary school in London before going on to be Assistant Headteacher responsible for teaching and learning. I became a governor as I feel that my own skill sets can help the school meet its targets as set in the school development plan. More than that I feel I can contribute to the wider vision that the school has and support the fantastic senior managers and staff at the school. Kippax North is a fantastic school and the warm welcome my children received when they joined in 2013 meant I had no hesitation in volunteering for this role.

Andy Thompson,

I live in Kippax and have 2 daughters at Kippax North. I became a governor mainly to help develop fundraising efforts, I have a background in event management and felt I could use these skills to help the school. Summer Fairs, Christmas fairs, School discos all help to raise much needed funds and also bring the school and community closer together. Working with the school as a governor is genuinely rewarding, and I hope to continue this work in the future.
